The break

Hit the 1-ball first. A legal break pockets a ball or drives at least four balls to a cushion. Making the 9 on a legal break wins the game.

Push out

On the shot right after the break, the shooter may "push out": roll the cue ball anywhere without the usual contact rules. The opponent then chooses to shoot or pass the shot back.

Playing

  • Always hit the lowest-numbered ball on the table first.
  • Any ball that goes in counts, and you keep shooting.
  • Combinations are legal: hit the lowest ball into the 9 to win.

Fouls

  • Not hitting the lowest ball first, scratching, or no cushion after contact.
  • After a foul, your opponent gets ball in hand anywhere on the table.
  • Three fouls in a row loses the game.

Winning

Legally pocket the 9 at any point. A 9 made on a foul is spotted.
